Project Management career with a degree in Management?
I’ve heard about many degree programs that focus on project management, but unfortunately, my school does not carry this major. I am looking to focus on Construction Management, Project Management, Contracting, and/ or possibly IT project management. My question is: Can I break into this career path with a degree in Business Management? Are there certain minors/ internships I can take to help this path? No need to answer both, but will be a plus.
Yes, you can go and pursue career in Construction Project Management (CPM) with a degree in Business Management. With real world experience you can go ahead with project management certification courses from Project Management Institute in various countries.
Also, search online for Construction Management Association of America (CMAA). For information on degree programs, reference ACCE, the American Council for Construction Education, or ASC, the Associated Schools of Construction. You can go along with degree programs, as you have already done business management, do 1 year associate degree for professional development to know about general management skills, to management skills specifically related to construction, to technical knowledge of Construction Methods and practices. IT project management or construction or contracting have same principles except they are for different industry verticals.
