Best Eleven Variations on Halloween Arts and Crafts for Kids

Halloween usually conjures up images of strange shapes, dark movie characters and popular animals. These days though, these common figures can be made in more ways than one and using an assortment of different materials. Here are the top eleven variations on the most popular Halloween arts and crafts for kids.

Bats

There’s no need for you to buy plastic bats for Halloween since you can make your own. You can easily cut patterns or two dimensional bats from construction paper or cartolina. Bat Halloween arts and crafts for kids can also be creatively made out of egg cup cartons to hang or out of clothes pins to clip on curtains.

Pumpkins

These days, you don’t have to worry about messy pumpkin carvings anymore. You can easily have pumpkin paper lanterns as Halloween arts and crafts for kids projects. If you don’t like lanterns, you can still make pumpkins out of paper plates, milk containers and construction paper. One other great alternative would be pumpkin baskets made of paper mache.

Witches

Witch Halloween arts and crafts for kids can be made out of paper plates and cardboard. As an alternative, you can create a witch doctor look instead of a western witch by incorporating beaded necklaces and homemade stuffed voodoo dolls.

Spiders

One favorite Halloween arts and crafts for kids is the spider. Spiders can be as simple as construction paper or egg cup carton hangers. They can also be made of pom poms or colored cotton balls.

Vampires

Vampire masks with fangs can be easily made with paper plates. More imposing ornamental life size vampires however can be made out of coat hangers and black garbage bags.

UFO

Aliens and UFOs are not common Halloween figures but stories of alien kidnappings and abduction makes great Halloween tales. Make UFOs out of paper plates that you can hang from the ceiling. You might also want to complement the ships with cookies shaped like stereotypical aliens instead of ginger bread men.

Worms in Cans

Worms in cans can be made of brown crepe paper. They can seem yuckier to the touch though if you use gummy candies and cooked spaghetti.

Ghosts

Ghosts can also come in variations. You can make ghost Halloween arts and crafts for kids made of socks, packing foam, old cloths, crepe paper, helium filled balloons, white painted jars, tissue and clay.

Mummy

Use tissue paper or gauze and wrap it around a jar for a mummified figure. Cut out some eyes from construction paper and stick them on the jars before you put on the tissue so you can have the eyes slightly covered and just peeking.

Cats

What’s Halloween without black cats? Use paper plates to create cat masks or some cotton and crepe paper to create billowing streamers.

Skeletons

White or luminous paint on a black figure would be perfect for the usual skeleton man. You can however create a good looking skeleton with different kinds of pasta.

Real Construction Toys For Kids

If it is the best construction toys for kids you’re in search of then the Real Construction Super Deluxe Tool Kit has to be right at the top of your Christmas buying list. Now you can introduce your kids to children’s educational toys that they are going to get pleasure from, are easy to use and teach them long lasting life abilities without them having to take a seat in front of a display screen, whether thats a TV or personal computer.

All parents can most likely remember when they or a sibling wanted to mimic or join in when one of their parents was doing some D.I.Y.. I don’t know what it is but I clearly remember my brother “throwing one” when my Dad did not allow him to help on quite a few occasions. As we grow up we learn and understand why, tools in the wrong hands just aren’t safe. We are able to all think about the damage, to property and themselves, that a saw might cause…ouch.

And now I find myself in the very same position. My son, once I’m doing my Do it yourself odd jobs, drives me mad asking to assist. Now the painting and decorating isn’t that much of an issue, on the safety front anyhow, however those odd occasions I really feel it necessary to get out my tools, like hammer, saw and drill, he’s there, keen as mustard, wanting to help his Mom. Not a bad thought – he could do it all for me if only he was capable – but you know, it’s important to have eyes in the back of your head to be able to keep watch over your little helper and finish the job in hand.

To a great degree, now you can take advantage of children’s educational toys, in the shape of the Real Construction Super Deluxe Workshop to permit your children, sons or daughters, to safely join in those D.I.Y. actions until now were just to hazardous to allow. They will use their very own comprehensive tool kit to saw, hammer, drill and build similar to their mother and father and grand parents do. All in complete safety and with no untidiness or possibility of some inconceivable injury.

The set comes with over one hundred thirty pieces, clearly the vast majority of these are screws and nails however it also has the correct amount of Kids-Wood, building tools and equipment to deal with the projects or for your child to experiment in their very own building project. With regards to tools, these construction site toys are nicely made, looking like they will take the rough and tumble they may most definitely receive during their life time. They all do the job intended and as this is the most costly set it really does have a comprehensive tool box full of Kids Construction toy tools. There is a hand saw and a detail saw, used for cutting the wood, together with hammer and screwdriver for fixing together these lengths of wood with the nails and screws that are included. The tape measure, level and square are great children’s educational toys in their very own right, educating youngsters numbers, addition, angles and measurement. Throw in a mitre saw and mitre box, for precision joints, hole cutters/borers, a number of hinges along with both a cloth tool belt, to keep the tools close to you when working, and a tool box, to keep every part in when your up-and-coming Construction Worker is not actually at work, and you begin to see the great value packaged into these construction toys for kids.

This is a question without alot of info to help solve it. 30 plus years ago I heard a story was something like a twilight zone ,hitchcock presents, orsen wells, outer limits type of format. I dont recall if it was TV show I listened to it on the radio or read it. The story was about a kid ( I think) who ran away from home and hide in a home under construction. It was night when he was there after a while he heard voices and stays hidden not wanting to get caught for being in the house. Not seeing who it was on the other side of the wall he overhears a conversation about a bank robbery or some sort of crime and how the big boss was coming to the house more guys show up to the home underconstruction the story goes on. The big surprise was that the voices he heard were talking squirells that kept getting bigger and bigger in size. Anyway the story goes something like that I heard something that reminded me of it and am i going nuts trying to figure out where i heard the story ..

you could be thinking of[ alcoa presents] i think it was on about 1958-59 they had wierd storys on that show. but it was a good show watch it all the time. i still remember the one where the glider took off from a class reunion. his friend stabbed him before he took off in gliderand he never returned. so they had a reunion 10 years latter. and at the reunion the plane came back after 10 years. and landed they looked in it was the same plane from the first reunion. and the skeloton was sitting in the seat yet.it also could be [one step beyond] show

Guide to Guitar Strings

The guide to guitar strings consists of basic knowledge on guitar. Guitar strings are the metal or plastic bits that are strum away to make the sound. If one analyzes the string history then it can be found that there are many different types of strings, made of different materials for diverse purposes. Guitar strings wear out with time and use.

Old guitar strings often perform imperfectly, they will drop tuning hastily, sound less intense, and will be problematic with intonation. Old guitar strings can also crack during the most inconvenient time.

As a guide to guitar strings one should know that usually, the strings are made either as solid threads of fabric (metal, plastic, silk, gut) or as threads with an additional wire wound tightly around it to get the necessary thickness. Plain strings are the smallest strings on a guitar, which are smooth and without windings. However, not much to choose between plain strings for electrics and that of acoustics, both are similar.

While restringing the guitar, either one will stab in the end of the left hand index finger of guitarists instantly. The visible difference in the E and B strings of an acoustic and electric set is the gauge, size of the string. A large amount of electric sets employ a plain string for the G string while acoustic sets entail a wound string.

A detailed comparison of various guitar models often helps as a guide to guitar strings. If one compares acoustic bass guitar with the traditional electric bass and the double bass, it will be noticed that the acoustic one commonly has four strings, which are usually tuned E A D G, an octave below the lowest four strings of the 6 string guitar. However, the choice is not limited for the guitar user, as the electric bass guitar, models with five or more strings have been created though a bit rare.

Given that the similar substance is used for both acoustic and electric, it ought to serve some more than the normal. The plain acoustic string needs to have strong resonant qualities and on the other hand plain electric strings should possess strong magnetic properties. The Swedish steel, which provides the ingredient to make these strings, does provide the necessary qualities to suit both.

The string, which is used to wound strings, differs much. As a guide to guitar strings, some examples are given below

Acoustic Guitar Strings

Acoustic guitar strings need to be loud, sound nice, wear well and look good at the same time. Acoustic strings come in an extensive range of materials; here is an overview:

Phosphor Bronze Wound Acoustic Guitar Strings

Phosphor bronze (PB) is a popular choice and only second to the 80 20 bronze strings for acoustic guitar. They generate a bright, but somewhat warmer and darker sound than the bronze strings. The presence of phosphorous in the alloy helps them maintain their new sound longer than bronze.

Electric Guitar Strings
Electric guitar strings create their signal through the use of magnetism and are a bit different to acoustic strings, as they do not need to be acoustically loud. So, the material used is different from the acoustic ones.

Bronze Wound Acoustic Guitar Strings

An 80 20 bronze string is made of an alloy encompassing 80 percent copper and 20 percent tin or 20 percent zinc. In fact this alloy is better known as brass. Bronze strings can fabricate an extraordinarily radiant, crispy sound when new. But with time, actually within a few hours, they lose their new sound. Performers, who change strings a lot, typically love them. The performers usually like the played in sound that bronze strings offer as the clarity begins to fade.

Pure Nickel Wound Strings

The strings of the 50s were wound with an alloy called Pure Nickel (although not really pure in the scientific term). They provided a soft feel and constructed that warm, vintage tone.

This detailed study will definitely help all the amateurists and professionals as the basic guide to guitar strings.

on construction sites, why are there often strings/threads bound by poles?

you know those threads that are inches from the grounds and usually bound my small poles or even sticks? what is the deal with that?

Those strings are used to mark the boundries of the foundation before it’s poured.

What are the reasons for each process?

What are the methods/procedures of the construction?

What material selections are used?

Construction techniques and processes vary from region to region; as each part of the country and even each city has different needs to meet; and therefore different building codes. These are enforced so that the buildings will meet a minimum safety standard. I can give you a basic idea of what goes on; but it depends on where you live, what type of house you want built, and the features in it.

The typical suburban dwelling normally begins with the excavation of the soil, to a depth below the frost line. A concrete footing is poured; to provide support for the foundation walls and spread the weight of the house over a wider area. At this point, the water supply lines and sewer drains can be installed. Once the concrete has cured sufficiently; forms are constructed to the shape of the foundation walls, and filled with concrete. The shape will vary according to the design of the house and the exterior finish. Forms are removed when the concrete cures; then the damp proofing is installed and the foundation is backfilled.

Framing begins – this is the structure of the house, and where all the subsystem lines are to be run. Usually a platform is built first, this will become the first floor, and the base for the wall framing. Once the walls are framed in, a platform is built on top; thus becoming both the ceiling for the first floor and the floor for the second. This continues until all the storys are completed; then the roof trusses are added and covered in wood to make the roof. Usually the roofing system is installed at this point.

Several things can now happen – the house exterior finishing; normally windows and doors first, then whatever type of wall finish, soffit, fascia, and gutters. This will seal out the weather while the interior mechanical systems go in (electrical, HVAC, plumbing – HVAC means Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning). Once all this stuff is in, then the house is insulated; including the vapour barrier.

Drywalling is next, once this is done then the millwork (baseboards, door frames, etc.) is installed so the painters can do their bit. Once everthing is painted the electricial trims out everything. This means that all the plugs, switches and fixtures are completed properly.

Now the really fun stuff. All the cabinetry can go in, carpets are installed; as are the tubs, toilets, etc., and the rest of the plumbing fixtures. You can also put in any special stuff (eg. ceramic tile, hardwood floors, etc.).

This is about the point at which most folks would move in, and the house would be complete.

Educational Baby Toys Are a Great Foundation For Adulthood

According to early scholars, when a child is born, its mind is a tabula rasa, a clean slate. As the baby grows older, he or she accumulates learning and experiences. Even the most basic of experiences can have a great impact on your children’s growth and development. What the baby commits to his or her mind can, in one way or another, determine what he would grow up to be.

This has been shown in John Watson’s experiment with Little Albert. In the said experiment, the 9-month old Little Albert was conditioned to fear certain objects with the use of a loud noise. The conditioning was so intense that even without the loud noise, Little Albert feared the objects associated with the noise.

Learning and development in babies occur mostly in the same way. Newborn babies tend to create between what their five senses can perceive and the experiences that they have.

One of the ways by which we can stimulate the learning and development of a baby is with the use of toys. Although most people equate toys with entertainment, in reality toys provide babies with their first ever learning experience.

Baby toys can be classified into four groups – pretend toys, arts & crafts toys, construction sets, and electronic toys.

Pretend toys are those that enhance a child’s communication skills as well as imagination. It also allows them to learn the value of sharing. Examples of this type of toys are toy soldiers as well as stuff toys. Pretend toys are more suited for toddlers as well as older children. Some pretend toys usually come with small parts so care should be taken when allowing your child to play with them.

Arts & Crafts toys, on the other hand, promote muscle coordination as well as creativity and imagination. It also helps develop a baby’s color and shape recognition skill. Mobiles can be classifies as arts and crafts toys.

Construction sets are suited more for toddlers. These are toys that help develop a baby’s concentration skills. In addition to that, construction toys give your kid a taste of the basics of physics and math. Building blocks are considered to be construction toys. Since playing with building blocks also make use of and movements, it is a great way for your baby to develop eye and hand coordination as well as fine hand movements.

As the name implies, electronic toys are those that involve the use of some form of technology. Most of these toys are suited for toddlers. They help develop a number of skills such as hand and eye coordination and fine muscle movement.

For newborn babies, toys should be the colorful ones filled with different shapes. It would help if these toys move around or are accompanied by music, anything that would catch your baby’s attention. Keep in mind that newborn babies have a tendency to “lock-in” on objects that capture their fancy. Having been surrounded by a dark and cramped space for 9 months, their curiosity gets easily piqued by bright colors and movement.

Is K’nex the world’s most creative construction toy? What happened to Meccano?

Opinions? It would be good to hear what people actually think about children’s creative abilities with modern K’nex, and older people’s experience with Meccano.

Information from Wikipedia is useful. I’d already read the stuff about the history of Meccano on Wikipedia. I’m looking to hear what peoples experiences and opinions are.

I’ve always been into Lego. But my twins were bought some k’nex last birthday (they were 4) and they were able to be much more creative with it. It was so easy to put together. They didn’t follow the instruction but were able to make things themselves. they had some junior meccano but it was as easy to use or as versatile. you could only make the model on the instructions. So there Christmas wish list has K’nex on. Even their two year old brother has ago with it. But when they are older they will be able to follow the instructions.

I’m trying to remember the name of a toy I had for Christmas one year. It was a giant spaceship (looked alot like the saucer section of the enterprise), you could just fly it around like that but once it landed and the top came off it had lots of small vehicles inside (I would say 30 odd). I think they were grouped togeather like construction ones, sea ones, digging ones… It was either the late 80’s or very early 90’s… Does anyone know it’s name?
It wasn’t micro machines I had loads of those these little vehicles were smaller then them…

“Building a wooden deck” How do I attach my 2×8’s to a block wall thats poured solid?

I am getting ready to build a wooden wraparound deck onto my house. I am framing off my already existing block foundation wall and the cells on this wall have been poured solid during construction. What type of fastener do you reccommend using to attach my framing 2×8 board to this block wall ? Also I have no axcess to the backside of the block wall.

You’ll need masonry bolts that will go into the matching-sized two-step expansion anchors which will fit into the mortar gaps in the brick.

You’ll drill holes (with a masonry bit) into the mortar where the holes line up. Drill coordinating holes in (studs/2×4s) whatever you’re using to attach the two. Ratchet down as hard as you can go.

Note:Buy a few masonry bits and keep them wet with a little water during the drilling process. You’ll go through the bits pretty quickly.
