Best Eleven Variations on Halloween Arts and Crafts for Kids

Halloween usually conjures up images of strange shapes, dark movie characters and popular animals. These days though, these common figures can be made in more ways than one and using an assortment of different materials. Here are the top eleven variations on the most popular Halloween arts and crafts for kids.

Bats

There’s no need for you to buy plastic bats for Halloween since you can make your own. You can easily cut patterns or two dimensional bats from construction paper or cartolina. Bat Halloween arts and crafts for kids can also be creatively made out of egg cup cartons to hang or out of clothes pins to clip on curtains.

Pumpkins

These days, you don’t have to worry about messy pumpkin carvings anymore. You can easily have pumpkin paper lanterns as Halloween arts and crafts for kids projects. If you don’t like lanterns, you can still make pumpkins out of paper plates, milk containers and construction paper. One other great alternative would be pumpkin baskets made of paper mache.

Witches

Witch Halloween arts and crafts for kids can be made out of paper plates and cardboard. As an alternative, you can create a witch doctor look instead of a western witch by incorporating beaded necklaces and homemade stuffed voodoo dolls.

Spiders

One favorite Halloween arts and crafts for kids is the spider. Spiders can be as simple as construction paper or egg cup carton hangers. They can also be made of pom poms or colored cotton balls.

Vampires

Vampire masks with fangs can be easily made with paper plates. More imposing ornamental life size vampires however can be made out of coat hangers and black garbage bags.

UFO

Aliens and UFOs are not common Halloween figures but stories of alien kidnappings and abduction makes great Halloween tales. Make UFOs out of paper plates that you can hang from the ceiling. You might also want to complement the ships with cookies shaped like stereotypical aliens instead of ginger bread men.

Worms in Cans

Worms in cans can be made of brown crepe paper. They can seem yuckier to the touch though if you use gummy candies and cooked spaghetti.

Ghosts

Ghosts can also come in variations. You can make ghost Halloween arts and crafts for kids made of socks, packing foam, old cloths, crepe paper, helium filled balloons, white painted jars, tissue and clay.

Mummy

Use tissue paper or gauze and wrap it around a jar for a mummified figure. Cut out some eyes from construction paper and stick them on the jars before you put on the tissue so you can have the eyes slightly covered and just peeking.

Cats

What’s Halloween without black cats? Use paper plates to create cat masks or some cotton and crepe paper to create billowing streamers.

Skeletons

White or luminous paint on a black figure would be perfect for the usual skeleton man. You can however create a good looking skeleton with different kinds of pasta.

Who is responsible…new construction builder or insurance?

Recently built a new construction home in Indiana. Closed Jan 18th. We have recently had bad weather causing several inches of ice and snow. I have noticed several stress marks around one of the kitchen can lights…almost displaying a pencil like marks on the wall and ceiling. We have noticed a loud “BOOM” coming from the attic that happens periodically in different areas. There is some ice damning going on. I attempted to clear the ice from the downspouts and gutter areas. I have not been able to check in the attic yet to determine if there is other damage occurring. The yard has not been completed and there are many spots around the foundation area that are left exposed. They will be finishing the yard in the spring.

My question is…is the builder responsible for any of these problems or the insurance company? I have only been in the home for 3 weeks now and I am not in a position to allow, what could amount to several thousand dollars of damage to a new home.

The weather related is the insurance.

The builder should fix the can lights.

The sound in the attic needs to be checked. It is likely air in the plumbing, but it could also be heater ducts that are not insulated right.

About the Author

Patrick Arden is a professional writer, presently he is writing articles on nature posters, architecture posters, bob Marley posters, clander, college posters, colours posters, films posters, movie posters, one sheet posters, order posters, television posters and many more.

What can be used to paint poster board?

I have to build a box for a school project and I am using poster board. What can I use to color it? Should I just take Construction Paper and then draw over it?

You can cover it in paper, or you can use acrylic or craft paint. Watercolor will make the poster board bow outwards and warp, and oil paint is expensive and will take a long time to dry. Spray paint should also work so long as you don’t put it on too thick, otherwise it is likely to make the poster board warp as well.

If you want to use paper, you could also use wraping paper, and spray adhesive to glue it on.

Or just buy poster board in the color you want it to be to start with.

Dollhouse Building Supplies

Building a dollhouse is fun, but it can also be hard work, especially if you don’t have all of the required supplies for putting the dollhouse together. With careful planning and a detailed list, however, you can put those concerns aside and get on with building the dollhouse of your dreams. There are a few critical supplies when it comes to building a dollhouse that can make the process of construction a lot smoother and a lot less complex.

Doors

Any good dollhouse has stylish and elegant doors. There are a number of doors available, of course, and the builder can pick from a variety of exciting designs. Interior, exterior, elaborate, and double doors are available from most major dollhouse suppliers. The interior doors lead from room to room within the dollhouse and come in a broad variety of materials and colors, making the inside of your dollhouse come to life with individual design ideas. Exterior doors are important, too, as they welcome the “guests” to the dollhouse with fashion and flare.

Door accessories are important for the proper installation of the doors, too. Hinges and box locks are available from most major retailers to allow the door additional functionality. Door handles, door knobs, and door knockers help give the dollhouse that additional personal touch and make it seem a little more like “home.”

Windows

Most windows are available as a part of a set for purchasing and installing in your dollhouse design. There are, of course, a number of different types of windows to choose from. Sash, arched, panel, dormer, and bay windows are all available in luxurious dollhouse versions to help give a hint of realism to the design. Imagine opening the home design with a big bay window in the front room to allow for lots of visitors to see in at the fantasy world within the dollhouse.

Flooring

Yes, you can have a hardwood floor for your dollhouse! There are infinite options when it comes to flooring designs for a dollhouse. Hardwood flooring, tiles, carpet, wood borders, runners, and scale flooring are all options to consider when forming the basis for the dollhouse. Pick one floor type to run through as a pattern through the home or go with a different floor type in every room. The choice is yours!

Wallpaper

The walls can be decorated with personal flavor, too. There are a number of wallpaper designs available for the dollhouse, many of which have unique and tasteful designs. Choose from generic single color patterns, designer wallpaper kits, world map wallpaper, mini graphics wallpaper, or any other wallpaper design that can add the comforts of home to the dollhouse. Each wallpaper design can be applied through tiling for extra convenience.

Lighting and Electrical Items

Bringing the dollhouse to life takes just a bit of light. You can add special fixtures, lighting options, sconces and wall fixtures, lamps for the table or the floor, fireplaces, and a wide variety of electrical items for the home. You might even be able to find a miniature plasma TV for the inside of the dollhouse! The sky is really the limit when it comes to decorating and caring for your dollhouse.

Paper blankets (Craft pads) as Moving and storage blankets

Paper blanket ? For moving? You probably never heard of this.

When considering packing furniture for a move or storage many people think about quilted moving blankets as a first choice. That is absolutely right, but what will happen after you done with the move?

You get stuck with bunch of moving blankets that you will not need in any foreseeable future…You can try to sell it on e-bay, but online auctions for moving and storage blankets are already filled with used packing blankets for sale and you would have to sell your moving blankets cheap, which might not even be worth the trouble.

There is an alternative to cloth quilted moving blankets which is paper blankets, brown paper packing blanket or craft pads.

Many people simply do not know that this option exists. Paper packing blankets are actually better to use than quilted moving blankets, when you are placing your items into long term storage. They are clean, breathable, light and do not take too much extra space.

Paper blankets are environmentally friendly, they are made from managed resources and 100% recyclable. Paper blankets reliably provide Furniture surface protection for storage and moving including sea export shipping to hot climates. Paper moving and packing blankets are clean, strong and breathable/porous to protect wooden surfaces in damp and humid environments. They cost much less than a moving blanket. And after you are done with the move – you can just place them in a recyclables bin.

So what is a paper blanket?

Paper moving blankets are a natural product, manufactured from recycled materials. The cover is reusable and fully recyclable and a green alternative to other furniture blankets and covers. Paper blanket has two outer layers of durable paper and three inner layers with soft tissue like paper that provides cushioning.

How is it made:

Paper blankets are constructed of two outer layers of brown kraft paper and three inner layers of light weight paper. The three inner layers can consist of newsprint, light weight kraft, tissue, toweling bogus, tissue or non woven papers.

Paper moving and packing Blankets come in standard widths of 42″, 48″, 54″ and 60″ and can be cut to almost any length.

The sides of paper packing blankets have a folded edge which creates a more durable blanket and reduces the chance of paper cuts.

What to use on

Paper blankets are ideal for use with any furniture that might retain moisture or be susceptible to rust. When retained moisture evaporates in warm conditions it will condense if restricted in polyethylene. Water will stain wood and cause mould, on metal it may cause rust. Regular moving blankets are also breathable, of course, but because of thickness of the quilted material it will retain moisture longer and it will also absorb more moisture than paper blanket. Paper moving blanket can be used on any furniture that other moving blankets can be used for:

Wooden tables and office desks, Glass tables and coffee tables, Headboards, Dressing tables, Chest of Drawers, Wicker furniture, Antique furniture, Wardrobes, Bedside cabinets, etc. Paper blankets can also be used as a cushioning material to fill in boxes or to nestle fragile items: just tear paper packing blanket apart and stuff moving boxes with it.

Premium quality quilted moving blankets provide better cushioning for wrapping the furniture, they are long lasting and durable of course, but you do not necessarily need that for a single move, and all these qualities come with much greater expense.

When you need covers for long term Storage or shipping, or single move, packing blankets do not need to be everlasting, be durable and heavy, They just need to get you through the move. Paper blankets ( craft pads) designed to provide cover and protect furniture from dust, light, and light scratches so the furniture does not fade and get dusty during long storage. Paper blankets are very inexpensive and light weight which will serve you well when shipping overseas container or even using locally for a move around the block.

Plus they are fully recyclable so after use you can simply place them into recycling receptacle. That save environment and save you headaches of dealing with used moving blankets.

NOTE: Do not be discouraged from using regular blankets, but make paper blanket a money saving and environmentally friendly addition to your packing list. And if you are looking to save costs on moving it make sense to get paper blanket along with regular moving blankets. Get quilted moving blankets for heavy furniture that needs more cushioning and get paper blankets for lighter furniture or for items that will stay in storage for a long time. You can also wrap furniture in paper blankets first and then get movers to use their moving blankets which they will remove in storage and you item will remain covered inside the storage unit and well protected during moving job.

Are home builders responsible for removing debris from construction site after work is completed?

We just had a home built in Albuquerque New Mexico and have a lot of debris. We are finding electrical prongs, new and old nails, large bolts, tar paper, dry wall, plastic, cigarette butts, tile, broken glass, large chunks of cement and stucco, etc, in our back yard. This is just on the surface. We have not even tried to dig down yet. Some of it is very old and could not have been used in the construction of my home. I think my lot was used as a dump for the construction of other homes before we bought. The builder sent someone out with a leaf rake but it did no good. It is still heavy with debris. Should the home builder be responsible for removing it? I found something on the EPA website called title 40 referring to the proper storage and disposal of waste. Thanks in advance for any help in this matter.

Though they are responsible for removing their own debri and grading the land, sodding or seeding, often times they tend to back hoe everything else into the ground.

It is important for Australians that are planning on working on construction sites to learn a few facts about what an Australian White Card really is. It is equally important to understand how such cards can be found online and also how they can be obtained in classrooms. But, before proceeding further with understanding more about these cards, it pays to understand a bit about their background.

Anyone that is planning to work on a construction site in Australia needs to be in possession of an Australian White Card (induction card). Failure to display such a card while working on a construction site in Australia is illegal and will make the concerned person liable to facing prosecution.

At one time, these cards were quite individual in their nature which meant that each Australian state had their own versions of the card. For example, in Queensland the card was called the Blue Card whereas the same card in Victoria was referred to as a Red Card. In Perth, these cards were known as Green Cards and in New South Wales, they were in fact known as a White Card. And, other states had their own names for these cards.

But, after the year 2009, things changed and became more standardized. Each state then standardized the names of these cards which were to be referred to as White. Officially, these cards could only be obtained after passing a course that is known as CPCCOHS1001A which referred to work safely in the Construction Industry. This course replaced all the other earlier courses including the 30215QLD Blue Card course that was part of Construction Industry General Safety Induction in the state of Queensland.

If you are planning on working at a construction site in Australia, then obtaining such a card is mandatory and in fact, these cards can be obtained in different ways. If you are just entering the construction industry then you will have to apply for the card for the absolute first time. Otherwise, the need to obtain such a card may also arise if your existing one has got lost. However, if you lose this card, it would be very difficult to get a replacement for it.

The need for a White Card can also arise in case your contractor or company requires that you have possession of the latest card which is necessary with many of the leading construction companies today.

The best way to obtain such a card is by sitting through or by facing training in a classroom. There are some companies in the state of Queensland that will offer to give you such training. Such an option is perfect for those people that need to get their card on the same day and who can devote time to attending classroom instructions.

You can also get the card by taking an online test and this option is ideal for those who are always pressed for time and who need a more efficient way of obtaining their White Card. As long as you meet minimum requirements, it will not be difficult to get your card online.

Narbil Training has a long association with workplace safety. They currently offer nationally accredited web based Australian Construction Induction White Card safety training at a very cheap price. They are definitely worth a look for anyone wanting to work in the Australian construction industry.

What is the best way to document the progress of a construction site?

I would like to document the construction of a house from three points of view. In my mind, the perfect solution would be a battery operated digital camera that is made to be left outdoors. I would be able to mount it top a post or tree, then set a timer so that the camera would take a picture at a designated time each day in full color at a somewhat decent resolution. I would then be able to pop out a media card or something to download the pics from time to time. Does a camera like this exist? I found something similar that was motion activated, but the images are black and white. Please help!!!!

Any digital camera with an externally controllable shutter (e.g. serial port), such as some of the Nikon Coolpix series, could be used if placed in a weatherproof box. See the links for a controller called the Time Machine, and an article on DIY time lapse photo setup.

Have a look ate the linked sites and/or do a search on Google (time+lapse+digital+photo)

Commercial Exterior Lighting Fixtures And Design Services

The diversity of clients in need of superior commercial exterior lighting requires the contractor to rely upon a source of luminaires that is robust, flexible, energy efficient, easy to install, and cost effective for the end user to maintain. One of the greatest advantages contractors obtain through partnership with RLL Design is the ability to match the best possible commercial lighting fixture to exterior building areas and surrounding property on site. Contractors who come to RLL Design as their preferred source of commercial exterior lighting fixtures have more options with which to build proposals and offer more delivery power to a broader spectrum of clients in corporate, municipal, academic, industrial, and hospitality markets.

Area Lighting for Commercial Exteriors

RLL Design supplies commercial designers with a large number of area lighting fixtures that bring competitive advantage to the bidding table. These area lights can be obtained in either in either horizontal or vertical orientation fitted with your choice of lamp types and reflectors that in turn can create any number of commercial exterior lighting effects free from glare and light pollution. RLLD Commercial aluminum exterior lights can be ordered in either flat or concave lenses that can provide complimentary lighting of commercial exterior architecture and general outdoor areas. All commercial exterior site lights are engineered to achieve full cutoff in full compliance with standards laid out by the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA).

Floodlighting

RLLD commercial exterior floodlights feature superior beam adjustment controls that can precisely control beam diameter and directional placement. Sophisticated reflector designs make these commercial exterior lights capable of generating any number of multi-dimensional lighting effects, giving your proposal a strong competitive advantage when bidding a commercial landscape or high-end resort facility that insists on having their very best face forward to the public. Diversity of style brings that added benefit of aesthetic compliment to lighting systems that require more than basic functionality to win the bid.

RLL floodlights are made from the toughest commercial grade materials and are designed to endure the elements regardless of climate or geography.

Canopy & Ceiling Mounted

RLL Design canopy and ceiling mounted commercial exterior lights feature specific housings for particular environments. This allows you to propose more precise options to a greater diversity of clients, as virtually any type of facility can be equipped with one or more of these custom luminaires. Choose from ceiling lights made specifically for commercial parking garages, canopy lights for retail centers and filling stations, flush mounted recessed models ideal for lighting commercial exteriors around corporate office parks, and fixtures designed especially for pedestrian walkways and building perimeters in civic centers and public recreational buildings.

Your clients will greatly appreciate the lower power bills and hours of glare free lighting RLL Design canopy and ceiling lights bring to their facilities. Maintenance for most of these fixtures is simple and does not require a professional contractor, because many of our models can be easily relamped from the ground. Clients will not only benefit from the low-profile and custom aesthetics these commercial exterior lights add to their site lighting, but they will also appreciate the do-it-yourself maintenance savings that our fixtures offer over competing models too complex for the end user to service without a service professional’s help.

Wall Mounted Commercial Exterior Lights

Wall mounted lights by RLL Design add value to your invoice with more mounting options and more aesthetic compliments to buildings of any size and architectural design. We supply up lights, down lights, and hybrid models for simultaneous up and down lighting with full cutoff distribution of light. Both HID and fluorescent lamping options can be ordered for almost any fixture design, allowing you to address both security concerns and power savings in your commercial exterior lighting system.

RLL Design wall mounted fixtures are also designed for maximum aesthetic presentation. Representing a number of sheik and aerodynamic builds, they superbly light commercial exteriors during evening hours and add complimentary design to building architecture during daylight hours as well. Fixtures can also be mounted at special angles of incidence to extend the light beyond the building perimeters to provided additional security and safety lighting for outdoor gathering areas, walkways, and parking lot boundaries.

Any client who is seeking to obtain a LEED certification will greatly benefit from the energy efficiency that characterizes RLLD commercial exterior wall mounted lighting fixtures. You as a contractor will benefit as well by being able to draw from a diverse reservoir of size options that will allow you to develop commercial exterior lighting systems for multi-building campuses such as schools, municipal centers, country clubs, and resorts. Many of these sites have buildings featuring the same architecture but varying greatly in physical size. When servicing these clients, you can order the same style fixture in small, medium, or large sizes to proportionally match fixture to architecture without compromising the thematic consistency of your commercial lighting design.

Strip Lighting for Commercial Exteriors

RLLD Commercial exterior strip lights produce glare and shadow free lighting optimal for a variety of important commercial environments. Retail clients often require extra lighting on their signage to attract customers. Building entrances are safer when well lit with a reliable, continuous, and cost competitive source of evenly distributed light around the entrance to the doorway. Buildings with the company logo painted on the side require vertical downlighting to properly showcase their identity. Humid climates usually need special vapor light fixtures to withstand wet atmospheric conditions.

When you build your proposal with RLL Design commercial exterior strip lights, you can meet the needs of any or all of these vertical markets with cost competitive energy ratings, superior functional light, and appropriate aesthetic compliment to virtually any commercial exterior you service.

Be sure to sing up for our RLL Design contractor community newsletter. In it you will find periodic updates on new industry technology, helpful installation suggestions, proposal development consultation services complimentary with your equipment purchase, and possible leads on new business.

The best solution to have a clean finish project at the end of construction is to prevent staining during the Construction Project. It is important to protect the GFRC during storage, setting and after it is installed. GFRC should be stored off the ground on non-staining planks or pallets. The GFRC (glass fiber reinforced concrete) storage site should be out of the way of heavy construction traffic. If the GFRC is going to be stored for an extended period of time, it should be kept on pallets and covered with nonstaining tarps or plastic. Once it is installed, GFRC pilasters, columns, windowsills, panels etc. should be protected with plastic nonstaining material during the remaining construction.

After construction, final wash down may be needed. Use of acids or brick cleaners is not recommended. The most common stain from construction is dirt. Dirt can be removed from GFRC (glass fiber reinforced concrete) by scrubbing with a mild detergent and water. When other stains are encountered, the most important step is to identify the stain and its cause. Any treatment used to clean GFRC should be tested in a small inconspicuous area prior to cleaning the main units.

Power washing and sandblasting or not recommended procedures for cleaning GFRC (glass fiber reinforced concrete). Metal fiber brushes should not be used for scrubbing GFRC (glass fiber reinforced concrete) they may scar the surface, and small bits of metal residue from the brush, left on the GFRC may later rust or corrode and cause staining.
