Subcontractor Taxes Texas

I had my hours reduced at work, but still get paid on 1099 and W-2. How do I file unemployment?

I’m a bit confused about what option to take.

Since we get our paychecks biweekly, my boss told me to tell the accounting department to get a check cut every week for 1 day of work i do for that week (so I’d have money).

One week is a payroll check, and the alternating week is a gross check (no taxes taken out)

I want to file for unemployment considering i’m only working 20% of full time. What am i supposed to do? Get put on as a subcontractor entirely?

When would I pay taxes, if any?

I work in Texas.

When you receive a 1099-misc you are basically self employed. You would need to file a schedule C to declare your income and figure the self employment tax. Unemployment will only consider you as an employee not if you were self employed. So, I would call your unemployment office and let them know of your situation. I think where you are getting paid as a w-2 employee as well, you may be able to get some unemployment. Depends on your state.

In by gone days all a contractor had to do was give the customer good quality and good service and he/she would be set. Then set back and let your customers do your selling for you. They would tell a friend and then that friend would tell a friend. Your phone would be ringing off the hook. I remember as an Architectural designer some days I would have up to four people wanting to schedule appointments for designs. Those days are long gone! But Fear Not! Click Here For Help
