If Erik Prince was a ‘CIA asset’ killing innocent Iraqis, what punishment should he face?
It is widely believed that Erik Prince was a CIA asset working a double life. He and other Blackwater private contractors were alleged to have killed innocent Iraqi citizens at random just for fun. The company, now renamed themselves to be “Xe” (try to query that in your browser!).
Sadly, Erik has called himself a Christian and a crusader. I think international criminal is probably more accurate.
If these accusations can be proved in a court of law, what punishment should he face? Right now, he has been removed from his leadership position, but he still enjoys a huge fortune that was given to him via Blackwater and no-bid contracts from the United States government. Oversight of congress was lost on many privately funded projects.
Blackwater has been booted out of Iraq by the Iraqi government.
If that is what he was “should” is irrelevant, he almost certainly won’t actually face any. One of the great problems with any covert agency is that they have huge amounts of power and, because their operations are secret, very few restraints. That kind of combination leads to a huge potential for abuse, and since the politicians don’t want to take responsibility for anything that goes wrong they generally refuse to look too closely at things, it’s called “plausible deniability”.
