web-based database?
hi am NOT familiar with programming so kindly excuse my poor I.T. language….. Am looking for a real estate database software.
A property web-based database, (1)for my self to display the properties owners info and remarks ect…(2)and to be used on the net for clients without displaying properties owners info (3)which can be custom-built for quick or detailed property searches / filters, such as … location ….and/or…. Price… and/or…. Bedrooms……and/or…photos…a… so on…(4) and that uses my already existing Microsoft Excel data.
My present Microsoft Excel database workbook consists of 7 sheets for a total of 50,000 properties and few hundreds of contact persons clients, contractors, notaries etc ….
I also know about the ACT! by Sage Premium for Real Estate 2006 and am willing to purchase it if it can be synchronized with the database am requesting …

Arguably the most popular solution used by many sites with web databases, including what I work with, are MySQL databases using PHP / HTML to render the web interface.
MySQL and PHP are freely available open source projects.
It’s likely that you may find a solution already geared for this purpose on freshmeat.net.
As for specifically doing this with Excel, I can’t say I know a solution. But I wouldn’t receommend using that Excel data directly even if you could do it with something like IIS (which I also don’t recommend). Most likely you’re looking at converting the excel spreadsheet data into a relational database which will allow controlled security (i.e. MySQL) especially for having this web accessible. There may be more info of interest at the link listed in sources.
