Sthree Say That it Contractor Market is Still Improving.

Up

According to leading agency, SThree, the IT Contracting market is holding up pretty well, whilst the permanent market is taking a bit of a dive.

So, it’s still good news for IT Contractors in the UK.

They are talking about their latest quarter which takes them to the end of August.

They say that they have 5,911 contractors, which is an increase of 11.7% on the previous year.

They say, also, that gross profit per day rates have improved also.

During the quarter, SThree made a total of 2,552 permanent placements, an increase of 11.8 % over the prior year (2007: 2,283).

Average placement fees also improved on the equivalent period last year.

Numbers

At the end of the third quarter UK contract runners were up 3.4%, with gross profit per day rates strengthening compared to the equivalent period last year.

During the quarter, UK permanent placements were down 9.6%.

Average UK permanent placement fees were stable, despite the continuing impact of the weak UK banking and finance segment, which traditionally has significantly higher than average placement fees.

As expected, UK permanent sales headcount reduced slightly versus last year whilst UK contract headcount was up slightly, leaving the overall UK sales headcount broadly level year on year.

IT Contractor Comment

So, there’s still no sign of a downturn for IT Contractors in the real world.

Agencies are virtually all saying that their contractor numbers are up and that the market still looks good.

This news now takes us to the end of August.

The crucial number for us is that contractor numbers are up by 3.4% compared to the equivalent period last year and that pay rates are up too.

Last week an Umbrella Company told us that their numbers were up too.

If there is to be a downturn for IT Contractors it hasn’t been seen yet up to the end of August.

Let’s hope it continues that way.

The only downturn has been in job ads, but this doesn’t seem to have trickled through to the real world when it comes to numbers of contractor working.

Are DOME HOMES practical? If so, what is the best kit out there to buy? I’m a contractor who wants to build…

homes around a lake. I’ve looked at all kinds of homes to construct:Solar Homes,Log Homes,Monolithic Homes,Earth Homes and Conventional Homes. Public opinion claims these are the most economical and strongest homes out on the market, once built. I also like their designs and the “futuristic” look they posess and I think that this will allow me to move them quickly in the market, as I will be selling them with the lake lot for residential usage.
If your answer is YES, would you buy the wooden kits or the cement or fiberglas shells? Which are better?
Last, would you buy the kits or just buy the materials locally and cut the pieces yourself to save on expense? Looking for some people out there with some good knowledge on Dome Homes. Thanks for any and all advice!

Speaking from a mortgage banking standpoint, dome homes are NOT treated favorably. Nor are Log homes, earth homes, etc…

They are considered unique, or different, and are treated differently when it comes to financing.

Few people want to purchase a “different” style of home. Therefore, you are eliminating 90+% of the possible buying pool for your homes. This causes banks to lose money when the loans go bad, since if they aren’t as easily marketable, they don’t get as high a price at auction. Instead of being willing to lend 95% of the value of a conventional home, banks might restrict you to 65-70% of the value of a dome home.

Unless you’ve got a couple other dome homes in your area that have sold in the last year or two, it will be tough to get any financing done. Same thing with a log or berm/earth home. Problem is, there aren’t very many. And they are scattered around. And they don’t sell very often. So getting an appraisal that’s actually meaningful (normal requirements are 3 homes sold within 6 months, within 1 mile of your home. Impossible with unique properties, especially lakefront!).

Find a couple high profile loan officers at banks or mortgage companies in your area, and discuss financing capabilities. They’ll be happy to talk to you, if they know you’ll send your buyers their way when the time comes.

There’s lots of other things to think about, of course, but for my sake, I wanted to bring up the one thing you probably hadn’t even considered, the difficulty of financing “unique” properties.

Good luck.

Roofing Contractor Marketing – Lon Smith Endorsement

In by gone days all a contractor had to do was give the customer good quality and good service and he/she would be set. Then set back and let your customers do your selling for you. They would tell a friend and then that friend would tell a friend. Your phone would be ringing off the hook. I remember as an Architectural designer some days I would have up to four people wanting to schedule appointments for designs. Those days are long gone! But Fear Not! Click Here For Help
