What in the world kind of wall is under my wallpaper??
So im repainting my kitchen. The wallpaper is starting to come off of the walls so it has to go! There is at least one layer of wallpaper and 2 layers of paint on those walls! So anyway, I peeled back some of the wallpaper to see what the wall was like underneath…here it is this strange brown material?…it almost looks like those brown clipboards that a lot of contractors use?
I have no idea what to do about all of this? Can I paint over it? because in some areas it is fuzzy where the top layer came off? help!?
The walls may have been panels of Masonite (like a pegboarboard or clipboard. That does take paint well usually, but if it is “fuzzy” you either still have wallpaper paste there or the top layer of panel has come up.
I want to say it can be sanded smooth, but it really depends on how badly it is damaged.
